I am happy to tell you about my favorite cheese - Cabot Cheese. Cabot Cheese is based in Vermont and was founded by the farmers of Cabot, Vermont in 1919. In 1919, farmers from the Cabot, Vermont area figured that they would work together to turn their excess milk into butter and market it throughout New England. Ninety-four farmers in all jumped on board, purchased the village creamery (built in 1893) and began producing butter under the Rosedale brand name. Today it is called the Cabot Creamery Cooperative. In 1989 Cabot cheese took first place in the cheddar category at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest held in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Today, Cabot blends state-of-the-art facilities with the timeless values a personal commitment to quality that comes from being 100% owned by farm families.
Cabot cheese is the finest I have ever tasted. I love sharp cheddar cheese and after sampling Cabot's Seriously Sharp at a booth at a local fair I was hooked. Seriously Sharp is now my cheddar cheese of choice and I don't buy anything else. Some of their other cheeses include:
- Specialty Cheddar
- Aged Cheddars
- Reduced Fat Cheddar
- Flavored Cheddars
- Butter and Yogurts
- Cheddar Powder
- Whipped Cream
- Sour Cream and Cottage Cheese
- Cabot Dips
We attended a Cabot event last year and it was great. Cabot brought some of their farm families to talk about the cheeses they help produce, they had free food and guest chefs from the Food Network, they gave away prizes like spa vacations, and everyone left with a Cabot gift bag of goodies.
Visit the Cabot Events page to find out where they will be in in your area.
